Week five of the #DashworthyYogaChallenge is an all-levels side plank pose. In case you’re just joining, every week I’m introducing a different yoga posture.
Share your version of the pose by the following Saturday for the chance to win the boutique yoga outfit that’s featured that week. This week it’s a beautiful maroon and charcoal outfit by Greater Than Sports.
Yoga Teacher Training Update
I’m about halfway through my yoga teacher training and loving every minute of it! It has been challenging both physically and mentally. I find every piece of what we’re learning fascinating and can’t wait to share even more with all of you!
This week we’re learning anatomy. It’s really helping me to connect the dots with my practice. More to come!
#DashworthyYogaChallenge Week 5: Side Plank Pose
The fifth pose of the #DashworthyYogaChallenge is side plank.
Sanskrit Name: Vasisthasana
Vasistha = most excellent, best, richest.
Vasistha is the name of several well-known sages in the yoga tradition.
Side Plank Pose Instructions
- Start in your high plank position; core is engaged.
- Bring the right hand into the center of the mat.
- Roll your left hip and shoulder open to the side.
- Roll onto your heels, the outside of the right foot resting firmly on the floor. Place the left foot on top of your right.
- Draw the shoulder blades down your back to open your chest.
- Push the ground away with your palm, lift your hips and chest up, if possible, create a crescent shape with your side body.
- Improves balance.
- Strengthens the arms, belly and legs.
- Stretches and strengthens the wrists.
Please note: Students with serious wrist, elbow, or shoulder injuries should avoid this pose.
